Building Access for Event Hosting
The building where you are holding your event may be locked during the hours of your event. Doors will not be automatically scheduled to unlock when you register your event. You may need to make special arrangements for your event attendees to access the building.
- Event Planning
- Campus Building Exterior Door Schedules - Find the hours of access for all MIT IDs, visitor IDs, and the hours that exterior doors may be unlocked for general public access.
- Public Access (Unlocked Exterior) Map
- Visitor Access Map (where visitor IDs have access and what the access hours are)
- Temporary Visitor IDs - For event attendees who do not have MIT IDs, you can sponsor visitors for a temporary one.
NOTE: If visitors have issues with the visitor ID process, please contact the Service Desk
You may need to make special arrangements so that your attendees can access the MIT building where your event is being held. Special access arrangements may include extending the access hours for MIT IDs and/or Visitor IDs or requesting that specific exterior doors be unlocked for the duration of your event. If you need to make special arrangements, please contact the Physical Security Team at least three business days before your event with:
- Date and time of your event
- Building and doors that need access
- Event sponsor or department contact
NOTE: If you request to have any exterior entrances to a building unlocked for the duration of your event, please indicate whether or not your event will provide staff/volunteers who will monitor the entrance lobby to manage guests.
Requests for special access go through an approval process; door access is not guaranteed unless officially confirmed. You will receive an email confirmation if confirmed.
If there’s an access issue the day of your event, please contact the Service Desk for assistance.
