Canvas LTI 1.3 Transition

Why is MIT upgrading to LTI 1.3?

LTI 1.3 is the current industry standard for learning tool integration. It offers enhanced security and improved user experience. Tool providers like Perusall and Gradescope will discontinue support for LTI 1.0/1.1 and any new features, bug fixes, etc. will not be applied to past integrations moving forward.

When will all the LTIs be transitioned to 1.3?

Gradescope and Perusall will be upgraded to LTI 1.3 on June 2, 2025. A timeline outlining the remaining LTI tool updates will be available at the end of August.

Will I still be able to access my content from the older LTI versions?

Yes. You will still have access to, and will be able to reuse, your previously-created content (e.g. Gradescope assignments or Perusall readings). The main change is how these tools connect to your Canvas course site. For example, a past Canvas Assignment that links to the 1.0/1.1 version of tool will need to be re-linked or migrated if you want to reuse it with the 1.3 version.

Where can I go for support with the transition?
