Printing MS Office documents on Athena

Question

Can I print my MS Office documents from an Athena Workstation?

Context

  • Microsoft Office Documents currently on Windows or Macintosh computer
  • Athena workstation and a public Athena printer

Answer

You should be able to print MS Office documents on Athena using Open Office. You just need to get your documents from your personal computer up onto Athena. There are several ways you can do this.

  • You could email documents to yourself to print them out.
  • You could use a usb drive with your documents on it on Athena
  • You could convert your document to a pdf and upload it to quickprint.mit.edu from your personal computer.
Also be aware that if you email documents to your self to print you may want to save the file as an MS 2003 version. The 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2011 versions of MS word use the .docx extension but Open Office seems to work better when the file extension is .doc.
