Why do some campus service requests require a cost object?

Use Atlas to order various services to maintain and enhance your physical environment. Although there is no charge for most repairs, other services may require a cost object.

  • Housing requests do not require a cost object.
  • Some Facilities requests require a cost object. The cost object field is displayed on the screen if costs are associated with the selected type of request. The creator must have spend authorization on the cost object to create the request. Authorizations are maintained in Roles.
  • When no cost object is required, the cost of the work is charged to the building.
  • Cost object is typically on the second screen.
  • Notable cost object changes:
    • Screen for requesting moving services in Atlas Service Requests does not have a field for cost object.
    • Landscaping – In the Atlas Service Request, there is no field for cost object
This is because the services available under the landscaping menu are all charged to the building. If the text of the request contains additional landscaping services, Facilities will contact you.
    • Event setup and Signage – In the Atlas Service Request, cost object field is on the second screen (after pressing Continue).
    • Lock request – Cost object field appears for some types of request, but not others
    • Installations – Cost object field appears for all types of installations, once the installation type is selected.
